Pine Lake Environmental Campus
Oneonta, New York,
United States
The Pine Lake Environmental Campus is owned by Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. Located nearby in West Davenport, Pine Lake has 920 acres. The residents live in a variety of houses including cabins, traditional houses, and an eight-bedroom lodge (like a common house; only place with television and internet access), and strawbale and cob cabins. The Vaudevillian, which looks similar to a gymnasium in the inside, is often used for showing movies, contra dances, indoor festivals, and other events. The lakeside classroom and the field station are occasionally used for college courses. A wood-burning Finnish sauna is right next to the lake's boating area. A garden area provides vegetables during the summer but residents buy most of their food in town during the academic year. A main goal of Pine Lake is sustainable living and learning. Annual events open to all include an Eco Art Festival with workshops, Pine Lake Day with a concert, Earth Day clean up, Cardboard Boat Race, Chili Cookoff and Sausage Festival, and other workshops throughout the year.
