Halcyon Commons Cooperative Urban Block
Berkeley, California,
United States
Not cohousing but a cooperative urban block, Halcyon Commons is a park built by neighbors where there once was a
parking lot in the middle of the street. The neighborhood is about
to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the park in September. There are
regular community potlocuks, a strong crimewatch, community animal
and child gatherings in the park, a weekly email newlsetter, strong
disaster preparedness, regular community park cleanups and plantings,
concerts in the park, and other celebrations. Halcyon Commons is a way of affording something close to cohousing in Berkeley.
