A group forming community
Indianapolis, Indiana,
United States
(Open to moving)
 We seek candidates for membership who are ecologically minded, innovators, cultural creatives, ideas people, and people people.
===
We are looking for a site. Preferences include being:
- within 25 blocks of Downtown Indianapolis and near Indy Food Co-op's Pogue's Run Grocer,
- in a calm neighborhood on a quiet steet,
- multi-story,
- with quick access to space for a vegetable garden (such as adjacent lots),
- on elevated ground,
- possibilities for expansion such as nearby structures and alleys,
- located in a creative neighborhood and near nature,
- with a garage and four or more bedrooms (at least one bedroom on the first floor).
The criteria are not fixed; for instance, sites supportive of creation of an ecological education center are very compelling.
===
At minimum we would be a group focused on the well bring of our members.
I also propose that we develop beyond that minimum with a mission such as the following:
To live toward and effectively promote sustainability as a residential community. Sustainability is defined as globally having enough resources for quality living for all and just distribution of resources into the indefinite future.
A draft of goals in support of the proposed mission:
1. As a community, share housing to reduce our ecological footprint and support quality living.
2. Promote the importance of various benefits of the ecosystem.
3. Model and effectively advocate practices in sustainability.
4. Advance just distribution of resources in support of the impoverished, future generations, and biodiversity.
Examples of services we might provide: a bike shop, radio repair shop, produce sales, landscaping, soil improvement, speakers, an arts center, and a nature conservation and restoration corps.
Proposed minimum requirements for residential membership:
1. Willingness to share a low ecological-footprint urban residence.
2. Willingness to engage in enhancing the domicile and quality of life.
3. Payment of monthly bills for housing, utilities, and enhancements. Estimated cost is $250 to $500 per month per bedroom, with an estimated typical monthly price of $320 for a one-person bedroom.
4. Willingness to make desirable contributions to the community, which could include regular participation in designated chores, meetings, projects, meals and festivities.
5. Health consciousness.
7. Sharing of our mission and goals.
8. Performance of chores and organizational tasks in a
