Can MasDeu is a squatted social center and urban community in the Collserola Park on the edge of Barcelona, Spain. In addition to roughly 25 people, 20 chickens, and one cat, hundreds of visitors come to work a plot of land in community gardens or to enjoy one of the many weekend activities.

Visitor Process: The website lists the activities of the house and the days we are open to the public: most Sundays in autumn, winter and spring. All are welcome to come on these days. However, we do not accept visitors for overnight stays. Barcelona is overrun with tourists, and as a result, visits to our house are restricted to friends of community members. Exceptions can be made, particularly for those offering a skill-exchange, but one must ask in advance. Please do not just show up and expect us to have room or energy to show you around on a day we are not open as a social center. Statement of Housing Non-discrimination:

Our community does not discriminate in regards to housing based on race/color, national origin, religion, sex/gender, family status (i.e. having children, not having children, or being pregnant), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, source of income, age, creed, personal appearance, political affiliation, HIV infection, military/veteran status, unfavorable military discharge, gender identity or expression, receiving public assistance, or being the victim of domestic abuse.

Population Members(adults and children): 24 Non-member Residents: 5 Open to new members: No (we occasionally make an exception, but at the moment we're not looking for more people.)	Government Decision Making: By consensus (Consensus does not mean arguing who has the right point of view, but finding a common ground. The ideal is that NOONE gets just what they want, but that all get some of what they want.) Identified Leader: No (we are VERY nonheirarchical, but we also respect authority when it can be justified by experience and/or undertaking a responsibility.) Leadership Core Group: No (authority is distributed among changing commissions, usually of one or two people.)	Labor and Money Financial Style: Members have independent finances (we each put 45€ a month into a communal pot.) Labor Contribution: Expected (30-48 hours / month) Join Fee: No Regular Fees: Yes (45€ / month for all expenses.)
Land and Buildings Other (rurban = a rural community on the edge of a metropolis) Area: 49.4 acres (20.0 hectares) (a squatted valley) Land Owned By: Other (we are squatting property of the Hospital of San Pau (a tripartate of the catholic church, the city hall, and the catalonian provincial government) Number of Residences: 1 (a former leper hospital, we all share one mansion with 45+ rooms) Cohousing: No	Food, etc. Percentage of Food Grown: over 50% (we try to buy organic what we can't grow ourselves) Share Community Meals: Nearly all meals (lunch and supper 7 days a week.) Dietary Choice or Restrictions: We all share a common diet (some gluten intolerance / allergies) Dietary Practice: Primarily vegetarian (Though we usually eat veg, there are quite a few meatlovers. There are no strict vegetarians. We have no dogmatic practices.) Alcohol Use: Used occasionally (No one has alcohol problems) Tobacco Use: Used Occasionally (Most are nonsmokers. Smokers smoke in the smoking space, or outside.)	Social Factors Common Spiritual Practices: No Which Spiritual Traditions(s): (almost all are atheists/agnostics, one buddhist) Educational Style(s): Private school off the property (two 3-year-olds attend an alternative preschool called la pinya)
