The HUB Housing Cooperative
Chicago, Illinois,
United States
(Little Village/Marshall Square neighborhood)
In January 2005 we bought a six-unit apartment building in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago. We currently have nine members and have two memberships for sale, one that comes with a one-bedroom apartment and the other that comes with a two-bedroom.
Our building has six apartments and our common spaces are our courtyard, and large basement. Our lifestyles are examples of sustainable living; we have a large storage space for bicycles, a bike workshop in our basement, and bike mechanics in the coop. Some of us use the bicycle as our main means of transportation. We also compost, recycle, and buy food in bulk through other coops and community sustainable agriculture (CSA). We are activists within the community for various causes. We work by consensus and for the good of our community. We are often found munching on something delicious at one of our regular potluck events. We are open to sharing our experiences of starting a coop. Let us know if you would like to visit!
