Our Dome Homes
 Our farm community is more like a housing development around a 65A farm or an Ag industrial park, as we also try to recruit full time farmers, than it is a conventional intensional community. We want people to get involved in farm projects or to rent on-farm housing before trying to buy or earn a lot. We also have a couple of small, rustic living quarters that can be used for WWOOFers who are volunteers who trade labor (no cash) for food & housing in order to gain experience on organic farms. These opportunities allow people to live the lifestyle before committing. The "full timers" on the farm include a dome builder but he is really busy trying to build his own dome as he has already built domes for some of us. We have a vineyard farmer and a vegetable farmer is coming from Cal in mid Feb. I have gardens, orchards and animals.
There is no "accept" or "reject" into the community. The only choice I have is whether to sell more land (1 acre homesteads or 2.5 acre mini-farms) at certain times and that depends on many factors. I look at our cash flow needs, land utilization, lack of a certain expertise on the farm ... lots of variables. I can not predict this answer so land ownership is not guaranteed but that does not exclude you from the community. The bottom line is we want to facilitate a free flow of information and reward application, innovation and hard work that helps us move toward a more sustainable future. Although we can not make specific promises, we hope to ultimately share our farm with those who persevere.
We have these general goals:
• Greater self-sufficiency (food, water, utilities)
• Education growth geared towards applied knowledge for sustainable living;
• Self-employment (grow one’s own food, build one’s own house, sell surplus direct);
• Downsizing to lower energy use, reduce maintenance, lower real estate taxes, and become a smaller target;
• Focus on health maintenance—fresh food, low toxicity, moderate exercise, low stress, clean water;
• Greater community-based support (less insurance);
• A labor-efficient lifestyle via permaculture practices
