Roofs and Roots Housing Co-operative
The Roofs and Roots Housing Co-op was formed by a group of community-minded tenants joining together to find a way to access decent housing. Our vision is to provide affordable housing that inspires, nurtures, and promotes stable, healthy community for the needs of diverse people and their lifestyles. Our goals are to purchase buildings for member-owned and managed affordable housing and other community benefits, such as urban agriculture, and to promote ecological sustainability through green building and urban farming. Roofs and Roots is a nonprofit development co-op that will continue building cooperatively owned affordable housing.
Members own the co-op and its buildings through shares, but the value of the membership shares do not increase. The increased equity that the cooperative gains from the increased value in land, along with savings and monthly contributions to our Development Fund, will be redirected to the development of more affordable housing. Members' investment in the co-op will be paid back in savings during our lifetime as well as housing for our children and future generations.
