Introduction
Sustainable Agriculture Development Program Nepal (SADP-Nepal) is non-profit making NGO which was formally established with combine efforts of socially devoted people especially caring environment by flourishing agriculture in a systematized way. With the holistic view of serving people and helping to promote organic farming SADP-Nepal is registered under the local administration law of His Majesty's Government of Nepal and affiliated with Social Welfare Council. This organization is emerging to promote organic farming and permaculture principles improving quality of life of local farmers. Its entire effort remains for the pioneering of organic farming, which is essential to keep ecologically and environmentally balance in the nature.
To feed an expanding world population without further clearance of forest, we need to use technology (permaculture), which maximizes yield and minimizes costs letting know the fine arrangements and design processing. Meanwhile there is an important issue in terms of chemical agricultural sustainability, which concerns the decline of mineral contents in food have shown a mineral decline of up to 20% raising concern about the impact on population health over time.
Nepal is an agro-based country where most of the population depends on agriculture. Due to various reasons and problems prevailed in the country the agriculture sector also has been seriously affected. Currently, it is undergoing with two major problems. In another aspect organic farming creeping hoping to meet the demand of time and people.
Vision:
The aim of this organization is to work with national and international people and organization, which carry same principles and beliefs.
Objectives:
1. To create awareness among the local farmers about the positive impact of organic farming.
2. To encourage farmers for the utilization of local resources and making alert about the long-term effect of chemical use on environment, human health and animal welfare.
3. To co-ordinate with national and international organizations for the propagation of organic farming.
4. To run specific classes literacy classes for the illiterate farmers and their family to build up analysis capacity.
5. To encourage farmers adopting integrated farming system bringing radical changes in traditional agriculture method.
6. To initiate micro-finance system among the farmers by managing group funding.
7. To provide training & develop knowledge and skill maintaining ecological balance.
8. To work on Food Security issue by encouraging for the preservation of local seeds.
Why is organic farming important?
The world has been under a serious problem. The conventional farming system is neglecting the bad impact of chemical on human health and in the nature. The ecological environment of the earth has been in a great danger. As the conventional farming is causing chemical hazards, we have to think on for the preservation of environment and its creatures.
The only way to maintain ecological balance in the nature is organic farming. To analyze and the organic farming as best solution, we are presenting some principles of organic farming.
1. To grow qualitative food in sufficient way.
2. To keep inter relationship with nature and work with it.
3. To encourage microorganisms insects & weeds for the reuse under recycle process.
4. Long-term management of soil fertility.
5. To minimize all types of pollutions.
6. To give priority for the use of resources which can be reused.
7. To provide minimum required facilities to the birds & animals reared.
8. To promote bio-diversity & production system.
9. To establish cordial relationship between agriculture production & animal rearing.
Potentiality Of Organic farming In Nepal:
While we overview, the history of organic farming in Nepal it seems that the situation is rising with lots of hope of rays. Some private entrepreneurs, Gos and NGOs have been working for the sustainability of agriculture carrying the core principles on organic agriculture.
However the situation is not satisfactory. Expertise & high technology is required for the significant achievement in this sector. Nepal lags far behind in the technology, even we have some internationally recognized expertise. To institutionalizing organic farming nation wide and globally, further steps has to be taken. Our initiative actions in this regard can be recognition for the future generations.
Conclusion:
Upon reviewing situations of organic farming in Nepal, following methodologies must be taken to pioneer it in the nation wide and globally.
1. By encouraging private entrepreneurs to establish training institutions and dissemination of qualitative seeds organically grown.
2. Formulate concrete planning policy for the betterment of farmers & farming system.
3. Implement organic farming system manipulating old methods.
4. Manage fine networking of marketing system.
5. Create public awareness about the bad impact of disorganized agriculture activities.
6. To encourage farmers to apply modern technology by not destroying natural resources.
Demonstrating Organic Farm & Location:
We have established the Demonstration Organic farm in about 4 acre of land for practical work and to inform or make conscious the farmers about advantage of organic farming and disadvantage of conventional chemical farming. Where we are planning to conduct trainings such as how to prepare compost, other organic manure and other subject related with organic farming & permaculture.
