Ofek Shalom Cooperative House
Madison, Wisconsin,
United States
Ofek Shalom Co-op is Madison's Jewish, vegetarian and vegan co-op situated in a small, comfortable house. Our co-op includes students, working people, and cats. We live in the center of downtown in a 1920s three-story house. Our recently remodeled kitchen is the hub of our vibrant community.
We are a Jewish house, but not all members are Jewish. We express our Jewishness in ways like creating new rituals and learning Jewish history. Every year we have at least one seder, and every Friday we welcome guests for a Shabbat meal, complete with fresh homemade challah.
Our work-job system tries to balance administrative and grunt work. We hold house meetings biweekly and use a modified-consensus process to create our own policies. We have an annual Purim masquerade party and a Scorpio drag party.
As one of Madison Community Cooperative's houses, we share its decision-making process and financial strength, as well as its parties, potlucks, and educational events.
We welcome new members to join us. Spaces usually open up August 15 and January 1. Please contact the membership coordinator if you'd like to check us out. Shalom!
