The Phoenix Cooperative House
Madison, Wisconsin,
United States
The Phoenix Co-op presently houses 26 members, both students and professionals, bringing a diverse and family-like environment to our co-op. We are located close to the Memorial Union and State Street in a spacious 1920s French chateau-style building. The house is beautified by decorative faces, a spiral staircase and a large fireplace.
The building was originally a sorority house but is now a mixed-gender housing cooperative and contains 24 bedrooms that vary in size and price ($280-$525 per month). There are two double rooms and 22 single rooms (singles can have double occupancy for an additional $50 a month). Monthly rent includes all utilities, washer and dryer, wireless internet access, and phone (local calls only). Security deposit and fees are $276, and $240 for summer sublets.
The food co-op is designed for both meat-eaters and vegetarians. The food co-op fee is $95 per month for house members and $110 per month for non-house members.
Phoenix provides a relaxed environment for members to share their outside interests. It uses a modified consensus decision-making process. We look for committed members who have a serious interest in living cooperatively and working and investing in our house.
