Mornington Grove Community
London, England,
United Kingdom
Our house in the middle of our street
Mornington Grove is a city community of up to 14 diverse people of all ages living in two semi-detached houses in a quiet East End street where playing kids outnumber cars. The community celebrated 20 years here in 2002, and we look forward to the next 20. Our main commitments are to communal living and working by consensus; the community is vegetarian and nonsmoking. Our legal status is as a fully mutual housing co-op, and we make all decisions by consensus at monthly business meetings. We aim to respect and support diversity.
Over the years members have varied wildly, with trends at times towards music, activism, macrobiotics, psychotherapy, design, various forms of spirituality, and more. Now many of us are involved in work, study, partners, campaigning, performing, friends, and interests outside the community, as well as our lives here.
We’re open to new members, particularly people with practical skills. Each member takes on responsibility for co-op, community, and household jobs ranging from finances to party organisation. It takes time to join and settle in, and we aim to be fairly stable, so we ask all new members to stay for two years. Please get in touch to find out more.
