Heartland Ecovillage
Loveland, Ohio,
United States
Heartland Ecovillage members at our October meeting
Heartland Ecovillage will be built in Loveland, Ohio, (outside Cincinnati). As our vision statement says, “Heartland Ecovillage strives to create a diverse community of people who have a passion for an Earth-harmonious, sustainable, socially equitable way of life.” We seek to live the values of Grailville, which are: ecological sustainability, spirituality, full empowerment of women, and social justice. We will embody a sense of life’s sacredness in all our actions and gatherings.
The Ecovillage group meets monthly, with subcommittees meeting regularly. The village will include up to 30 housing units, plus a common house. We are interested in geothermal heating/cooling, passive and active solar, composting toilets and constructed wetlands, rainwater catchment, SIPs (structural insulated panels), and strawbale. The village will be pedestrian-friendly and include gardens and green space. We also will provide educational programming, in conjunction with Grailville, on issues related to the environment and community.
We are working in partnership with The Grail to build an ecovillage on part of their land at Grailville, which is a long-established environmental, education and retreat center located on 310 acres of woodlands, pasture, and organic fields. The Grail is an international movement of women committed to spiritual search, social action, ecological sustainability and the release of women’s creative energy throughout the world.
