Twelve Tribes Community in Irún
Irun,
Spain
For ages, the Iberian Peninsula has been a bridge between cultures, continents, and seas. Here is where you can find us. We are in the North and the South of Spain. We live in community. This has gone on well for many years because we have crossed a bridge. Loneliness lays behind together with searching for our own lives with all their problems and ahead of us is a future as one people sharing our lives together following the pattern of the first followers of the Messiah. (Acts 2 and 4 of The New Testament).
Yahshua* is the bridge. In love with His message, each one of us has come out of the religions and traditions of whatever society we were a part of to form a new society whose substance and creative power is love from a pure heart.
Love is the force that unites us. It transforms hate into friendship and anger into peace. We are truly able to live together with people of different nationalities, races, and languages. We enjoy the characteristic flavor of each and every one because the spirit that lifts us up is teaching us to get rid of our own selfishness, which is the cause of conflicts and the rising of visible and invisible barriers. Love is cleansing our hearts from their pollution, granting us a real sustainable and renewable life. Our life together is the groundwork to put love into action caring for each other’s needs. This care reflects on the way we care for the rest of creation.
Our community life is based on the foundations of the conscience. So we build upon family values, loyalty to agreement and covenants, respect, forgiveness, seeking the good things that create a pleasant and fertile atmosphere for human development.
In a cortijo (farmhouse) in Malaga, on a farm in Asturias or in Burgos, and in two caseríos in Guipuzcoa (a farm in Irún, and a house in Mount Ulia -- San Sebastian) you can find us busy doing the many works that community life generates. As in a beehive the bees give their lives for the good of all, so we use our graces, gifts, abilities, trades and all of our strengths for the good of our friends. Some cultivate vegetables, others care for goats, some might be covered with motor oil under a car or covered in flour baking pastries for a celebration… We cook, wash dishes, train our children, sew clothes, etc. You could meet us at a market selling organic Maté, candles, spelt bread, or you might see some building a wooden cabin, preparing a skit, learning dances, or practicing music with our children. Each “bee”does what he can do, teaches what he can teach, or learns what he can learn.
Our love for this life compels us to write about it. All of us that live this way come from different backgrounds, some are married and others are single, some were seeking a spiritual way, others were skeptical or had been disappointed; but somehow whether we sought out to live according to the Gospel or just happened to pass by and met this people, we were all offered the hospitality of Abraham, and what we heard and saw made sense to us. If you would like to come visit don’t hesitate to call or write. Don’t think that you may have to pay to simply take part in our daily life. We welcome both young and old. If you are still seeking the truth and have not given up hope to find a life of peace and love, we invite you to come and see. WOOFERS are welcome.
After much work a good rest is well enjoyed. Each Friday, as evening shadows come we gather to celebrate the Shabbat. We rest from our work on Saturday and keep on celebrating. Sunday we might have outdoor projects together and play Volleyball if the weather is nice.
Caserio Barraca is an organic farm in Ventas de Irun (Guipuzcoa), between the border with France and the city of San Sebastian. This is in the Basque Country -- Spain. Welcome!
*Yahshua is the original Hebrew name of the Son of God.
Yah = Yahweh and shua = Salvation. Powerful.
