Twelve Tribes Community in Katoomba, Blue Mountains
Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia
Our little community is especially grateful to live just out of Sydney in a World Heritage National Park. It’s very pretty up here… it’s not hard to hear the voice of Creation when you visit the Blue Mountains. Creation speaks when you look out into the distant valley at the beautiful blue haze, or as you gaze at the sheer cliff faces reflecting the radiance of the sun. Maybe the rhythm of the water as it cascades down the rocks will speak to you as it eventually spills out over a waterfall, or it could be the cry of the lyre bird with its feathered tail spread wide as it wanders through the bush. Yes, many people come to the Blue Mountains to appreciate the voice of Creation – to wonder at the beauty found in this unique area.
We too, have taken delight in this voice, and long to see the reputation of the One who created all of these things, who has so much care and order, to be made right. We live our life daily up here in the small tourist town of Katoomba desiring that the Voice of our Creator could be heard through our daily lives – through a people living together in a life of love and unity.
There are not many of us here at the moment, as we’re just getting established. There are three families and a couple of single people. We live right on the main street of Katoomba, just at the bottom of town. The townsfolk have welcomed us as they watch us turn a once dilapidated building into a beautiful café. They look forward to our shop opening one day. It’s going to be called Common Ground Café, as we want it to be ‘common ground’ for all the different walks of life that pass through this main street – a place where people would feel comfortable and at home.
We don’t have any industries established yet, as the café will be our main focus, so our friends in the communities at Peppercorn Creek Farm and Galston support us for now. We are very grateful for them. It’s nice to be in a place where you are cared for. But we don’t want to always depend on them, so we have vision for growing… we want to be just like those communities that are taking care of us, and like the ones being established in the Twelve Tribes around the world. We want to be just the same and bear the same, good fruit. But it takes time, and effort. There is a lot to do. There is a lot of restoration taking place… not only in restoring this old building of ours, but also restoring the polluted areas of our life.
Our main desire is that we would properly represent our Master Yahshua,(the Hebrew name for Jesus) just like He perfectly represented His Father. Our goal is to love one another just as He loved us. We're not there yet, but we press on in the hope He has given us, judging our own selfish ways which come to divide us.
His life and the words He spoke were louder than that of the most beautiful sunset settling over the blue haze of the valley. We want to join in with the rest of Creation up here in the Blue Mountains proclaiming the goodness of our Creator - why don’t you come and join us…
