Harmony Green Village
Delaware County, Pennsylvania,
United States
(near Media, Swarthmore, Boothwyn or Aston, PA)

(near PA border)
We are going to join our neighboring communities and call ourselves an ecovillage as well as a cohousing community because both names can be used interchangeably and features of both titles apply equally to us. The reason is that the prefix "eco" is more familiar to the general public who are becoming greener and greener in their thinking; whereas Cohousing to some implies a "commune" which we certainly are not!
We have been told by a highly acclaimed nationally recognized Green Developer that he will work with us if we find a site within walking distance of a town's shopping area that appeals to him so we are putting ourselves into high gear with great excitement, looking for a site. With his help in conjunction with a local partner, we hope to find a Township that would take pride in having a LEED Gold or Platinum equivalent cohousing condo community (ecovillage) where individuals can enjoy fellowship by socializing, working, and eating together some of the time, while maintaining total privacy in separately owned and occupied, fully equipped condo flats or townhouses for themselves located on the same grounds. Members will participate in some optional shared meals in the clubhouse and in some shared jobs in common areas, and will interact with those who truly want to be neighborly without being intrusive. Community will be ruled by modified consensus, in which every owner has an equal say. Maintenance jobs will be performed by hired outsiders if no one wants to take them on. All units will be one or two bedrooms, with possible den, and the possibility exists of three bedrooms for small families with children. We hope to have them built in about 2-3 years.
