| The Rainbow Way-station is on three acres of undeveloped land deep in the Hawaiian rain forest. Located 3 - 5 miles off the main highway, a vehicle is recommended. There is no infrastructure, but roads run along two sides of the land so it is relatively accessible. Due to the small size of the land, space is limited. There is no budget for paid labor, but work / camp space exchange is possible. Or rent a space and take it easy! We can always use some green energy here.
The intent is to form a small core group, (8-10) having space left over for visitors and travelers. We are in the process of building a botanical "Eco-Ark" in the form of a jungle maze, as a tourist attraction. Thus providing a source of future funding while maintaining an ecological preserve.
The initial land base is privately "owned" (due to societal requirements) (land trust pending) and is being made available as a stepping stone toward the growth of a community of private "owners" with a community vision. You are not expected to "buy in."
While striving to be spiritually centered individuals, our community is not affiliated with any religion or specific spiritual practice, and we do not intend to make this a "spiritual community." We respect the beliefs of others; we feel that religious/spiritual beliefs are a personal matter. Ceremonies, religious/spiritual observances are welcome as long as they "invite/welcome" rather than "expect/force" others to participate.
It IS hoped that you will join in with like-minded individuals in obtaining neighboring parcels. Making your own rules, following your own beliefs and focuses. Instead of one large, jointly owned (or lost) parcel where everyone has to fit into the same box, this is a vision of many smaller, diversely focused, privately owned boxes working cooperatively. More like a community "association" with personal freedoms, individuality, and self determination being cornerstones. Instead of planting "one big tree", we will plant "many little trees". Through this method we increase the likelihood of survivability.
We are NOT a commune. You are not required to give all your assets to an organization. Nor are you expected to work all week for the organization. You are expected to be self sufficient AND contribute to the common good in return for the common benefit. This contribution can be made through ones physical labor, but financial contributions are preferred. Though we are quite remote we are also only 15 miles from Hilo, HI. the largest city on island of Hawaii. A plus for those who desire jobs off-site. Power lines do run to the property but are not hooked up. Same it true for all other properties in the area. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
