Twelve Tribes Community in Winnipeg
Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada
Household in the Gates
The life of the first century church that began to sprout again over 30 years ago in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has put down roots here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our communal way of living is the result of obedience to the One who died and rose again to rescue mankind from their loneliness and bring them into a confederacy with a common cause. We knew in our hearts this was the only response befitting, that we would love one another as He has loved us.
Day after day we work together in our industries and households, learning the practical application of love. One of our main industries here in Winnipeg is our machine shop. In this facility, we have built several portable cafés for the many events we cater to in the summer.
We also own a café in downtown Winnipeg, a small but unique retreat from the city clamor, where people from all walks of life can enjoy the wholesome, organic food and peaceful atmosphere. That's why we call it The Common Ground.
We import and distribute herbal tea called yerba maté ( www.matefactor.ca) in order to help our community in Brazil. The proceeds from our industries are used corporately to care for the needs of all. Although we live in the city, our two large houses are located in a quiet residential area of Winnipeg known as The Gates. About twenty-five minutes away from there, we also have a small farm called Little Mountain Farm, where we are learning to care for our animals and grow some of our own food.
In our homes we are always busy and we take all our meals together. Our children are the focus of our life. They are taught at home with those who are gifted teachers to make sure they get the academic training they need.
