Grimstone Community
Devon, England,
United Kingdom
Grimstone Community was originally formed in 1990 to buy and develop the existing successful workshop center at Grimstone Manor. A magical spot on the edge of Dartmoor, it is set in 27 acres of garden, pasture, and wilderness. Members make a financial investment in the property and join the business partnership. We are presently nine adults, two children, and three families who have joined as affiliate members, investing as nonresidential co-owners of the property. Our main focus as a community is to service the many varied self-development groups who come to work in, receive, and feed the special energies here. We meet once a week, alternating business and process meetings. All decisions are taken by consensus between equal partners. Members focalize different areas of work, but, generally, all work is shared and paid at the same hourly rate. Short-term volunteers work in return for their keep. We are moving toward building a sense of community on material, emotional, and spiritual levels. Together we eat daily, meditate weekly, laugh, work, and grow. There are local community links through circle dancing, chanting, and other events. We are open to new members with capital, flexibility, and enthusiasm.
