Burlington Cohousing East Village is a lovely community in the heart of the city. We are an example of one path to a sustainable future that includes affordable living, decreased automobile dependence, and harmonious sharing of resources – along with ample opportunities for privacy. We nurture people and the natural environment.
Our location is within walking distance from downtown, the University of Vermont, Fletcher Allen Health Care, and Winooski. We are a new community; construction was complete in November, 2007. As of August, 2008, there are 2 town house units for sale (or possible 9 months rental). If you have any interest, please check our "real" website - www.bcoho.org - ASAP.
There are 32 private homes in one 18-unit buildings, 2 rows of townhouses (10 units), one duplex, and two detached single family homes. We are a mixed income community. Nine of our living units have down payment grants for income-eligible folks; the remaining units are for market rate buyers.
We have a community building for optional group meals and many other activities. A large outdoor area is used for outdoor play, socializing, and gardening. The land borders on a conserved natural area with hiking trails through a mature forest.
Community governance and tasks are managed by the residents. Everyone is expected to participate on some level. Please contact us to learn more.
