| Our intention is to live, to love, to work together in harmony, to serve the marginalized, to create partnerships that are mutually liberating, and to pursue social justice with respect and dignity for all, in the spirit of St. Francis, Dorothy Day, and our other sources of inspiration. Through a daily rhythm of meditation and service, community is formed, and through the practice of creative love and beauty, hope is renewed. The Companions seek to be instruments of peace in the "ordinariness of life." We strive to follow the practices of abundant simplicity, nonviolence, and the works of mercy, contemplation, and community. With an intention to love loudly, our projects include a hospitality center, a soup kitchen, a health clinic, an emergency shelter for women, a work co-op, a farmworker pantry, tutoring farmworker children, summer camps, immersion experiences for youth and college students, and roundtable discussions and education. We seek a transformation of culture that is nonviolent and personalist. A major focus of ours is the practice of reconciliation between religions and our members include persons of differing faiths (or no faith). We dream of a rural community to focus on nurturing children. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
