Strangers & Guests Catholic Worker Community
Blockton, Iowa,
United States
Small community in very rural southwest Iowa in Catholic Worker personalist tradition; 12+ years. Organic garden, dairy goats, ecumenical Scripture study, handweaving rag rugs. Our family has been here since 1986. Other folks have come and joined us for varied length of stay for many reasons. We are glad to welcome visitors/guests and/or apprentices. We find common ground with others in our area. Active in peace issues regionally and try to involve also in local issues and needs, i.e., effects of corporation agriculture. Food buying co-op. Running water. No TV. We try to bring awareness of national and international issues to this area. Simple lifestyle. Working a variety of part-time jobs for cash.
