Intentional Communities - A Project of the FIC

Formed: 1968 Established: 1968
Fairview House
Berkeley, California,
United States
We are a 6-10-person (it varies), organically evolving, multigenerational household. Current members are involved in community empowerment projects (www.sfnan.org), musicians, artists, and recreationists. We range in age from 30 to 62 but are open to people of all ages. Our house is 14 years old. We cook dinners (we just started eating meat after decades of veganism, so we are sensitive to people’s eating habits) five days a week, meet bimonthly, and are intently fixing up our two houses that we own as part of the Northern California Land Trust (nclt.org). We have a beautiful flower garden (depending on the state of weeds), a small vegetable garden, a dog, and one cat.
We don't hold to any specific dogma or religion; we are largely progressively minded and share an interest in political, social, environmental, artistic, and spiritual matters. We care about what goes on in the world. We are generally committed to making our house an affordable, pleasant place to live. Implicitly, there is a commitment to open, loving communication with each other. We also strive to be emotionally responsible and work out personal issues as they arise. We are involved in our neighborhood, specifically in trying to get everyone in the area together to make south Berkeley a better place.
