Windward
Klickitat, Washington,
United States
(we are located 8 miles northeast of the town of klickitat, on the eastern side of the cascades, two hours from Porland Oregon.)
As a cooperative community of over thirty years Windward is dedicated to preserving and developing the full spectrum of social and material technology needed to create a sustainable rural village. We believe that now is the time for radical change—and that there is nothing more radical than creating a working model of a better way.
Windward provides opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, and fellowships (more detail about these programs is available on our website) for deep learning through practical hands-on experience with the tools needed to build a life in concert with the natural world. And, if it's a good fit--Windward offers the opportunity to create a sustainable home and a right-livelihood. One of the key differences between Windward and other communities is that we have a clear path by which someone can become a stakeholder in the non-profit that owns the 131 acres we steward.
In addition to traditional techniques such as organic gardening and earth sheltered construction, we are developing cutting-edge systems such as integrated aquaponics, converting forest waste into liquid fuel, and a representative consensus model.
If you have a vision of leading a deeply fulfilling, integrated, land-based life in community--we have the tools to create this life together. If you dream of being part of a village of artists and artisans, scientists and poets dedicated to creating a sustainable life close to the land, we'd like to hear from you.
