| Erraid (one square mile) has been in the care of the Findhorn Foundation for nearly 20 years. A small, self-supporting community flourishes here, interpreting the same ideals and spirituality as the Foundation, in ways appropriate to the purpose and nature of the island.
Life on this wild and beautiful Hebridean island is down-to-earth, challenging, and inspiring. As our guest, you are invited to take part in our daily work, community life, meditations, and celebrations. Being here allows us, residents and guests alike, to connect with nature and the elements in a very immediate way, be it growing vegetables, caring for our animals, confronting tides and weather, or exploring the rugged landscape of Erraid itself.
The heart of the community is the garden and much of the work is outdoors, chopping wood or maintaining buildings for example, but you don't have to be a youthful, pioneer type to enjoy yourself! There is gentler work in the kitchen and candle studio, or other areas. The cottages are cosy, and as long as you are mobile and can cope with outside toilets, you'll manage fine. There is also plenty of room for personal time and reflection.
Erraid is ideal in its simplicity and groundedness, either before or after Experience Week, or other programs. Or visit us independently. We invite you to come for one or two weeks, or longer. Children are very welcome and usually love the adventure and freedom of Erraid. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
