Camphill Village Minnesota is one of 110 Camphill Communities around the world. We are a spiritually striving intentional community of approximately 50 people including adults with developmental disabilities.
Our village is nestled amongst 500 acres of gently rolling forested hills and sparkling lakes and waterways in the beautiful heartland of America.
The life, work, and celebrations of our community are based on the strong belief that every individual, regardless of ability, is an independent spiritual being.
Developmental disabilities are treated not as illnesses, but as a part of the fabric of human experience, worthy of recognition, respect, and honor.
We live together in the quest to bring the needs of the land, people, and animals into harmony with the needs of the spirit.
Our community has a strong agricultural component with biodynamic farming and gardening, and a small beef herd.
Our craft shops include a bakery, weavery, woodworking shop, card shop, and a food processing workshop. All members of the community are cared for within the context of healthy home environments and an active village life, in which the dignity of humanity is enkindled and nurtured collectively and individually.
Camphill was founded in 1939 in Scotland by Austrian born Karl Koenig MD, and a small group of enthusiastic people whose aim was to live together in shared responsibility, caring for each other's needs, and so create a healing environment for the education and life with disabled children and adults. The underlying principles and striving of the Camphill Communities is based on anthroposophy, a modern path of spirituality brought through Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), an Austrian humanitarian, educator, philosopher, and scientist.
We are open to new members as space is available. Please inquire by email, letter, or phone.
