The Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago is a branch of the Ramakrishna math and mission with headquarters in Belur Math, India. The Ramakrishna math and mission, which is dedicated to the twin ideals of realizing God within and serving God in man, has 135 centers throughout the world, of which 12 are in the United States. The society maintains a temple and monastery in Chicago and a monastery with retreat facilities in Ganges, Michigan. Both centers maintain bookshops and libraries of books on eastern and western spirituality. Ganges also has a museum of Indian culture.
