Sun Meadows, Inc.
Tonasket, Washington,
United States
Located in the foothills of the Cascade mountains in north-central Washington State, Sun Meadows Farms has the goal of being a self-sufficient community unrestricted by traditional roles.
Sun Meadows was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1974 and currently owns 40 acres of land with three houses. Members are responsible for their own finances, vehicles, and personal belongings. Sun Meadows is sustained by monthly dues in exchange for living in the homes owned and maintained by the corporation.
We have chosen to power our homes with alternative sources: solar, battery, and generated. Our water is pumped from a spring to a holding tank and gravity-fed to the houses. Our rural county has limited professional income opportunities, and the farm has the potential to support agriculturally based cottage industries.
We are open to people of vision who deliberately choose to be part of an intentional community and are capable of living harmoniously with others and tolerant of people's personal philosophies, intent, and personality.
We strive on an individual and community level to be ecologically conservative, realizing we are sustained on a delicately balanced ecosystem. We focus on education and practicing homesteading skills such as carpentry, animal husbandry, organic gardening, food preservation, and mechanics.
Over the past 25 years, Sun Meadows has hosted hundreds of people from all walks of life, each staying from a day to many years. With minimal infrastructure, Sun Meadows is the vision and the action of people who are participating at the given moment.

Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses)
