Shiloh Community

 The Shiloh Community founded by E. Crosby Monroe in southwestern New York in 1942 actively followed a communal way of life since its inception. The underlying focus is developing Christian spiritual growth, both as individuals and as a community, and living lives in a way that reflects this priority. This focus has evolved independent of any specific religious affiliation and might be most accurately described as esoteric Christianity. (This implies going beyond first-order Christianity. Hebrews 6:1, 2.) Rev. Monroe died in 1961.
In this self-supporting community, a progression of occupations followed: general farming, dairy farming, meat processing, flour milling, retail baking, then wholesale baking and distribution. By the mid-1960s the need for an improved setting for the family and businesses occurred. In 1968 a grand hotel was acquired in the beautiful Arkansas Ozarks, which now serves as the community's central facility (including offices, cafeteria, guest rooms and retirement wing for the elderly). The Comunity ownes and operates the Shiloh Christian Retreat Center.
At this stage of the community's development, many of the members are senior citizens, respected elders who continue to be actively involved in daily community life to the extent that they are able.
Creativity and enthusiasm are valued but need to be balanced by maturity and commitment. Essentially, it may take a while to prove one's self, moving forward one step at a time. We do not accept persons with "antigovernment" philosophies. The expression of true Christian loves, patience, and hard work are the assets most likely to win our confidence.
