Solar Energy Awareness and Demonstration Seminars is a not-for-profit group establishing a self-sufficient, alternative-energy community and seminar center on 60 acres in rural Maine. We hold solar workshops on a wide range of topics, including solar-thermal (hot water) panels, photovoltaic (PV) module assembly, hydroponic grow systems, and lifestyle counseling. We are using a community-land-trust model and stress voluntary cooperation and mutual aid--working with others, using group consensus, and sharing. This year, SEADS will establish our alternative energy / environmental land trust, after almost 30 years of on-going, hands-on solar seminars!
We promote and participate in peace activism and activities, stressing a renewable-energy future. After a provisional period, families will have an opportunity for individual, limited-equity home ownership on common land. Members will share responsibilities and benefits of operating the solar-powered seminar center and traveler hostel in our common building, in operation for 30 years. Greenhouse, gardens, and independent solar-electric utility are our small step toward self-sufficiency and world peace. We are now in the first stages of the land-trust operation, which will include five to seven solar-powered homesteads. We still need "real" people and families to continue the process into the twenty-first century. Please write or email.
Status: SEADS is now in the final stages of Land-Trust formation
